T.B. Taylor, 91, passed away at the Episcopal Church Home in Louisville on Jan. 7, 2013.
T.B. was born June 28, 1921, in Redbird and was one of 11 children born to the late James Mathew “Jim Mat” and Ethel Owen (Smith) Taylor. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Rose Meadors Taylor; his brothers, Estel, Earl, James “Junior” and Arnold; and his sisters, Edith Thomas and Mamie.
He was a World War II veteran and served as a tech sergeant in the 95th Infantry Division’s H Company – 377th Infantry Regiment. He was very proud to be among the many in the 95th Division who became known as the “Iron Men of Metz” for their liberation of Metz, France, in November 1944.
He retired from the Army National Guard and the U.S. Department of Interior, National Park Service. While at the National Park Service, he worked at Prince William Forest Park, Cumberland Gap National Historical Park and Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore Park.
In addition to graduating from Williamsburg High School and Cumberland College, he also attended the University of Tennessee. T.B. enjoyed fishing, golfing and gardening, but will be remembered the most as a considerate man with an engaging personality, and as a loving father and husband. He will be truly missed by his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by children, Pat (Mona), Donna Witherspoon (Bill) and Tony (Barbara); seven grandchildren, Patrick, Susan Davis (Brian), Josh (Spring), Lara Hudson, Ben, Neal and Sarah; four great-grandchildren, Katie, Brennan, Hunter and Drew; sisters, Kathlene Thomas (Glenn deceased), Irene Ball (Harold), Elizabeth Brummett (Charles) and Wanda Kiser (Charles); and sisters-in-law, Jessie Taylor (Earl deceased) and Brenda Taylor (Arnold deceased).
A funeral service is at 1 p.m. Friday at Ellison Funeral Home, 512 Main St., Williamsburg, with visitation from 11 a.m. until the service. He will be laid to rest at New Mount Zion Church Cemetery in Williamsburg. The Rev. Charles Kiser will officiate.
A special thanks to the caregivers and pastoral staff at the Episcopal Church Home for the care of T.B. and his wife, Rose. The staff lovingly nurtured his health and Christian spirit.
