Harold Dean Ford, 72, of Lake Charles, La., passed away Friday, Jan. 11, 2013, in the comfort of his home.
Mr. Ford was born in Tompkinsville and traveled extensively throughout the states during his military career. He lived primarily in Kentucky and Missouri and had lived the past 12 years in Lake Charles. A Vietnam veteran, he served the U.S. Navy as a corpsman for 15 years. Mr. Ford also worked 20 years as a self-employed truck driver before retiring. He was a member of the NRA, enjoyed building guns, building clocks and was an avid coin collector. He was an outdoorsman whom, during his younger years, enjoyed fishing and camping. Mr. Ford will be most remembered for his wisdom and generosity.
He leaves to honor his memory five sons, Danny Lee Ford of Bowling Green, Donnie Wayne Ford and his wife, Rhonda, of Lake Charles, Richard Dean Ford and his wife, NavaJo, of Iowa, La., Joshua Dean Ford and his wife, Nicole, of Sulphur, La., and Caleb Nathaniel Ford and his wife, Jeanie, of Bucklin, Mo.; 11 grandchildren, Stephanie and Stacy, Shawn and April, Brandon, Jacob, Courtney and Katie and Cheyenne, Launa and Samuel; seven great-grandchildren; brothers, Bill Ford of Bowling Green, Jerry Ford of Moss Bluff, La., and Michael Ford of Kentucky; two sisters, Theresa Henson of Tennessee and Bettie Schexneider of Lafayette, La.; and his beloved dog, Jack.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Irvin and Flossie Ford; and a brother, Morris Ford.
A tribute to Mr. Ford was held Monday in Lake Charles under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Graveside services followed by military honors will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Freedom No. 2 Church Cemetery in Tompkinsville.
