Charles Richard Driver, a longtime Fallon, Nev., resident, passed away Jan. 20, 2013, after a short bout with cancer.
Charlie was born in Elkmont, Ala., on Dec. 8, 1928, to Dessie and Letitia Driver.
Charlie was a chief boiler tender in the U.S. Navy, retiring after 20 years. He went to work for civil service in Long Beach, Calif. Charlie and his wife came to visit friends in Fallon and ended up moving here in 1968. He worked at NAS Fallon, retiring after 20 years of service. During his younger years in Fallon, Charlie coached youth baseball for eight years. He enjoyed the outdoors, fishing and hunting, he raised birds, pheasants, quail, and with his spare time he worked in his woodworking shop.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother and a sister. Charlie is survived by his wife of 55 years, Irene Driver of Fallon; daughters, Viola Cline, Jeanette Van Strien, and Patsy and Steven Spurlock, all of Las Vegas; sons, Charles Driver of Lodi, Calif., and Donald Driver of Maine; grandchildren, Stephen, Samantha, Craig, Donald, Stacey, Steven, James and Adam; and great-grandchildren, Stephanie, Kevin, Scott, Emily, Joshua and Evan.
Graveside services with military honors will be held Friday at The Gardens Cemetery in Fallon. A celebration of Charlie’s life will be held at the Fallon Elks Lodge following inurnment.
