Clella Mae (Bullock) Griffis, 89, passed away Sunday, Jan. 27, 2013, in Snellville, Ga., at Embracing Hospice.
Clella was the daughter of the late Clarence and Mae Bullock of Grassland. Mrs. Griffis was a longtime resident of Bowling Green and a member of First Baptist Church. She attended Western Kentucky University and retired from Colt Manufacturing Co. This gentle woman loved her family and friends, her garden and the beauty of nature. She was preceded in death by her husband, Estil Griffis; an infant son, Stephen Edward Griffis; a daughter, Patricia Louis Griffis; a brother, Raymond Griffis; and a sister, Vivian Houchen.
Mrs. Griffis is survived by two sons, Estil Griffis Jr. and his wife, Violet, of Hardinsburg, Ind., and Donald R. Griffis of Bowling Green; and a daughter, Sandra Murray and her husband, Charles Elmer, of Loganville, Ga. She leaves behind five grandsons, Terry Griffis (Lea Anne), Bruce Griffis, Stephan Murray, Jimmy Don Murray and Sean Griffis; a granddaughter, Dr. Tracy Murray Bowling (Matt); five great-grandchildren, Zachary Griffis, Zeke Griffis, Lucas Murray, Cole Murray and Paige Murray; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Clella is also survived by a brother, Denzil Bullock (Reva) of Brownsville; and four sisters, Mrs. Ila Simon of Elizabeth, Ind., Mrs. Cornelia Patton of Brownsville, Mrs. Nelda Wheat (Dallas) of Bowling Green and Mrs. Carolyn Sanders of Homestead, Fla. God has taken one of His angels home.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday and from 10 a.m. to noon Friday at J.C. Kirby & Son Lovers Lane Chapel. Funeral service will be at noon Friday at the funeral chapel. Burial will be at Holly Springs Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery in Edmonson County.
