Dewey Celsor, 89, of Chicago, passed away Friday, Feb. 1, 2013, at Central Baptist Village in Norridge, Ill.

The Gamaliel native was born May 16, 1923. He was preceded in death by his parents, Varney and Mary Eliza Shackelford Celsor; two sisters, Helen Robinson and Lucille Young; and four brothers, Harmon, Ned, Don and Webb Celsor.

Dewey was retired from Sunbeam Corp. and a member of Long Ave. Church of Christ in Chicago. He was a U.S. Marine veteran of World War II and was in the Pacific theater. He was a devout Christian whose intellectual pastime was in-depth Bible study. He was a kind and generous man and a hard worker, whose sense of humor persisted to the end despite advanced dementia.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Smalling Celsor; three daughters, Linda Gutfeld (Charles) of Berwyn, Ill., Wanda “Rae” Celsor (Mark Orenstein) of Oak Park, Ill., and Sheila Madsen (Gary) of Chesterfield, Mo.; a son, George Celsor (Debra Abshier) of Anchorage, Alaska; a sister, Ida Horn of Alton, Ill.; five brothers, Loyd Celsor (Marie) of Hartsville, Tenn., Edsel Celsor (Fern) of Godfrey, Ill., Revely Celsor (Ione) of Greenville, Wis., Jimmy Celsor (June) of Titusville, Fla., and Willie Celsor (Doris) of Hebron, Ind.; and seven grandchildren, Max Gutfeld (Angelica Malyszko), Molly Gutfeld, Julie Steffens, Guinevere Orenstein, Lily Madsen, Sarah Madsen and Margaret Madsen.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday at J.C. Kirby & Son Lovers Lane Chapel, with the funeral at 3 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Woodburn Cemetery.
