Funeral Home: Sego Funeral Home
Edwina Craddock Borden, 92, died Sunday morning, Feb. 10, 2013, at Baptist Northeast Hospital in La Grange.
A native of Cub Run, she was the daughter of Lon and Pearl Doyle Craddock. She was preceded in death by her husband, Willis B. “Jack” Borden; her two brothers, Dane and Basil Craddock, and her three sisters, Oris Reynolds, Mavis Lester and Hazel Bolton.
Edwina leaves behind three loving children, Haskell (Barbara) Borden of Tierra Verde, Fla., Paul (Donna) Borden of Louisville and Deborah (John) Dunker of La Grange. Grandchildren include Haskell’s son, Jerod (Becky) Borden of Bowling Green; Paul and Donna’s sons, Jonathan and Matthew Borden, both of Louisville; and Deborah’s daughter, Jenna Borden of Louisville. Jerod’s two children, Tyler and Justin, are Edwina’s only two great-grandchildren and were special sources of joy to her.
In her final weeks and months, Edwina, our Mother, liked to talk about the hard times she shared with her brothers and sisters growing up during the Great Depression and about the many nieces and nephews she has scattered throughout Kentucky and surrounding states. Without mentioning any by name, lest we would unintentionally omit several she would want mentioned, we want all of the children of our aunts and uncles to know that Mom took great pride in her birthplace and her family and in the accomplishments of each and every one of you.
She loved to cook, especially for the big family gatherings at Thanksgiving and Christmas and to show her dozens of handmade quilts to anyone interested. Of the hundreds of quilts she made, a few she sold, but most were gifts to family and friends to keep warm during cold winter nights. We hope that those acts of giving will be part of how she is remembered.
We wish to acknowledge and thank the staff at the Richwood Nursing Facility in La Grange for the kindness and loving care given to our mother during her final months while living at their facility.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Sego Funeral Home, Munfordville, with burial in the Cave City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday and will continue after 8 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Memorial gifts may be made in memory of Jack and Edwina Borden to the Alzheimer’s Association or the American Heart Association, or to a church or charity of the donor’s choice.
