Sanford Eugene “Jack” Thurmond, 94, of Franklin, died Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2013, at Auburn Health Care.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Crafton Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Franklin First Baptist Church with burial to follow in Green Lawn Cemetery, with military honors being conducted by the Simpson County Honor Guard.

A native of Simpson County, he was the son of the late Sanford Bryan Thurmond and Eugenia Munday Thurmond. He was a tobacco buyer for the American Tobacco Co. Mr. Thurmond was a World War II Army veteran. During his tour of duty he received both the Bronze Star and Purple Heart. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lorraine Thurmond, and a brother, Hal Munday Thurmond.
Survivors include two sons, Jackie Thurmond and his wife, Mary Jane, and Steve Thurmond and his wife, Brenda, all of Franklin; a sister, Mollye Horton of Birdsnest, Va.; grandchildren, Lori Chaffin of Franklin, Mark Thurmond of Franklin, Molly Bottoms of Lexington, Amanda Watt of Bowling Green, Jacob Thurmond of Franklin and Nick Thurmond of Bardstown; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will begin at 4 p.m. today and after 8 a.m. Friday at Franklin First Baptist Church.
