Funeral Home: J.C. Kirby & Son Lovers Lane Chapel
Frances Ellene McElroy, 97, of Louisville, died Feb. 12, 2013, at her home after a brief illness.
A Bowling Green native, she was the eldest daughter of the late Hershel Algernon McElroy and Hawley Payne McElroy and sister of the late H.A. McElroy, Ruth McElroy Donaldson and John Robert McElroy.
Called “Tootsie” by her family, Miss McElroy attended Bowling Green Business University, and subsequently worked for the WPA in Lima, Ohio. As an accountant for the Civil Service at Fort Knox, she rose to the position of assistant chief of the accounting and finance department, and received multiple commendations during her 30-year tenure.
Services will be Saturday at J.C. Kirby Funeral Home on Lovers Lane in Bowling Green. Visitation will be held from noon to 1 p.m., with a memorial service to follow at 1 p.m.
Miss McElroy is survived by nieces Sandra Busby Hovious (Robert) and her children, Robert Gregg Hovious (Martha) and Laura Hovious Littleton; Sara Payne McElroy of Gambier, Ohio, Nancy Gregg McElroy of Venice, Italy, and Lucy Ballard McElroy of Louisville; nephews, Dr. Elvis Smith Donaldson Jr. (Geneva) of Lexington and his children, Elvis Smith Donaldson III and Adam Brooks Donaldson; and Brent McElroy “Mac” Donaldson (Deborah) of Franklin and his children, Mary Beth Schlosser, Douglas McElroy Donaldson and Dee Dee Donaldson Phillips.
