Funeral Home: J.C. Kirby & Son Lovers Lane Chapel
Porter E. Long, 85, of Bowling Green, passed away at 6:29 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2013, at Greenview Hospital.
Porter was born in Smiths Grove on Dec. 1, 1927, and was the son of the late William L. and Elizabeth Stephenson Long. Also, he was preceded in death by eight brothers, Luther, Elmer, Leonard, Oral, Charles, Artie, Chester and Stokes Long. Porter was a Realtor and auctioneer for Long Realty and Auction Co. He was a member of Cumberland Presbyterian Church and a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in World War II. He was an avid Bowling Green High School Purples Fan. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Deana Head Long; a son, Steve Long (Jo Evelyn) of Bowling Green; a daughter, Dottie Wimpee (Tim) of Bowling Green; a brother, Robert Long (Jane) of Bowling Green; four grandchildren, Jody Long (Angel), Kasi Long, Brette Wimpee and Ryanne Wimpee; two great-grandchildren, Bryan and Jackson Long; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at J.C. Kirby and Son Lovers Lane Chapel, with the funeral at 10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Bowling Green Gardens.
