Lester Rudolph Lawrence, 90, of Bowling Green, died Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2013, at 2:30 p.m. at his home.
He was born in Reedyville on June 22, 1922, to the late Clester and Lillie Keown Lawrence Childers. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Edwin C. Lawrence. He was retired from the Bowling Green Fire Department after 22 years and served as assistant chief. He was the oldest living fireman in Bowling Green. He was a member of Lehman Avenue Church of Christ, where he served as a deacon for 29 years before resigning for health problems. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II from 1942 until 1946. He was also a retired special education school bus driver for Bowling Green Schools for 20 years. He was a home builder and property investor.
Donations may be made to Lehman Avenue Church of Christ or the Foundation Christian Academy.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Jeanetta Whalin Lawrence of Bowling Green; his son, Perry Thomas Lawrence and his wife, Robin, of Bowling Green; his granddaughter, Amber Leigh Lawrence of Bowling Green; his sister, Ursa Lawrence Davis and her husband, G.L., of Bowling Green; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. The family would like to give a special thanks to all his loving caregivers.
Funeral services will be 11:30 a.m. Saturday at the J.C. Kirby and Son Broadway Chapel, with burial in the Fairview Cemetery. Friends may call on the family from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and after 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral chapel.
