Roy Smith Jr., 83, of Hadley, passed away on March 11, 2013, at 12:08 p.m. at The Medical Center.
The Hadley native was born on June 25, 1929, to the late William Roy and Lillie Belcher Smith. He was also preceded in death by a son, David Wayne Smith. He was a member of New Gasper Baptist Church and operated Roy Smith Excavating and Trucking for many years.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Joyce N. Loveless Smith; one son, Steve Smith and his wife, Shelia Faye, of Scottsville; four daughters, Brenda Spainhoward and her husband, Bill, of Henderson County, Barbara Smith and her husband, Jeff, of Port St. Lucie, Fla., Patsy Morris and her husband, Tommy, of Henderson County, and Susan Hatcher and her husband, Tommy, of Morgantown; 11 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren; and two brothers, James T. Smith and Charles Smith, both of Bowling Green.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 2 p.m. at the J.C. Kirby & Son Broadway Chapel, with visitation from noon to 8 p.m. Wednesday and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday at the Broadway Chapel. Burial will be in Highland Baptist Church Cemetery in Hadley.
