Layton ‘Spike’ Neighbors, 74, of Rockfield, died at 10:07 a.m. Wednesday, March 13, 2013, at The Medical Center in Bowling Green.
The Warren County native was born April 1, 1938, a son of the late Vechel and Levia Martin Neighbors. He was preceded in death by two sons, Darrell Neighbors and Ronnie Kessinger.
Mr. Neighbors worked at Western Kentucky University in the maintenance department for 22 years and was a member of First Pentecostal Church on Russellville Road. Services will be performed by the Rev. Ivan Key.
He is survived by his wife, Thelma Neighbors of Rockfield; a granddaughter, Suzie; three sisters, Sophia Raines of Knightstown, Ind., Earline Brumit and her husband, Carlie, of Claypool, and Dean Hartsock of Greenfield, Ind.; two brothers, Vester Neighbors and his wife, Elma, of Seattle, and Lester Neighbors and his wife, Phyllis, of Hadley; 15 stepchildren; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services are scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday at Johnson-Vaughn-Phelps Funeral Home, with burial in the Archie Newman Wilson Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Johnson-Vaughn-Phelps Funeral Home.
