Lewis Evans, 84, passed away on Saturday, March 23, 2013 at his residence.
He was a retired Butler County school teacher with 41 years of services, a retired bus driver and baseball coach and retired from the city of Morgantown. Lewis was an avid UK Basketball and Cincinnati Reds fan. He was a deacon and Superintendant at Mt. Liberty Baptist Church and a Kentucky Colonel. He always supported his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren in all their activities.
He was born on October 29, 1928 to Cecil and Floy Pharris Evans. He was preceded in death by his parents, a grandson - Michael McCoy, a great granddaughter - Sarah Elizabeth Jones, three sisters -- Illma Evans Havens, Faye Evans Embry and Almeta “Pete” Evans Embry and two brothers -- Lloyd “Buck” Evans and Lowell Evans. One son-in-law, Lonnie Proctor.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years Mary Sweatt Evans, two sons - David Evans (Kathy) of Bowling Green and Donnie Evans (Linda) of Morgantown, three daughters -- Virginia Evans of Bowling Green, Norma Proctor of Morgantown and Lisa Evans of Lawrenceburg. Seven grandchildren -- Scotty Proctor (Dana), Tiffani Jones (Jason) and Derek Proctor of Morgantown, Traci Duff (Jr.) and Tori Gerbig (Chris) of Bowling Green, Tamara Evans of Louisville and Clint Evans of Henderson; one step grandson -- Steve Alford; ten great grandchildren -- Brandon, Brady & Maddie Jones, Austin, Autumn, Kaleigh & Jacob Proctor all of Morgantown, Charley Grace and Trey Duff of Bowling Green and Jagger McCoy of Auburn; Six step great grandchildren -- Katelynn Alford of Bowling Green, Whitney Baldwin (Philip) of Adairville, Kierra Neighbors, Jacoty Hope, Journey and Landon Alford all of Morgantown; one step great great grandson Braydon Dalton of Bowling Green. He was looking forward to the birth of two more great grandsons --- Jackson Thomas Gerbig due in May and Evan Lewis Proctor due in June.
The funeral will be at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 27, 2013 at Smith Funeral Home with burial at Mt. Liberty Baptist Church. Bro. Mike Daugherty and Bro. Jimmy Pharris officiating. Visitation will be from 11 - 8 on Tuesday and from 8am until funeral on Wed., March 26, 2013 at Smith Funeral Home.
