Florence A. Royal, 90, of Lincoln, Ill., passed away Saturday, March 23, 2013, at 11:55 a.m. at her home surrounded by her family.

A memorial Mass will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church, with the Rev. Jeffrey G. Laible officiating. Burial will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Lincoln. Peasley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Florence Agnes Kavelman was born Dec. 31, 1922, in Lincoln, the daughter of August and Agnes Pluth Kavelman. She married Wray R. Heft in 1945 and had three children. He preceded her in death. She later married Wiley H. Royal in 1972. He preceded her in death in 1986.

Surviving Mrs. Royal are her children, Susan (David) Hauffe of Rockford, Ill., Gregory Heft of Lincoln and Chrystal (Ed) Mills of Bowling Green; grandchildren, Gregory Heft Jr., Mindyl (Josh) Hanford, Heather (Josh) Smith, Angela (Jon) Bellows, Christopher (Brandy) Mills, Clinton (Emily) Mills and Macy Mills; great-grandchildren, Cameron, Kendall and Tylor Heft, Marilla, Louisa, and Isaac Smith, and Maylee, Brooks and Max Mills. Also surviving are a sister-in-law, Lorna Kavelman; nieces and nephews; and many special friends.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Fred and Bill Kavelman; two sisters-in-law, Louise Kavelman and Lois Kavelman; and a nephew, Joseph Kavelman.

Florence was born and raised in Lincoln and moved to Wisconsin and Texas during her second marriage. She had many jobs besides being a mom, including legal secretary, telephone operator, receptionist, retail clerk, cook, bartender and many more. She returned to Lincoln in 1987 after the death of her husband to be with her family and friends.

She lived a full life and celebrated her 90th birthday last New Year’s Eve. She will be missed so much by all of her family, including her faithful companion, Macy, her cat. One of her greatest loves was dancing. She always spoke of doing the jitterbug in her younger years. In her later years, she found great joy in dancing at her grandchildren’s weddings.

The family would like to thank her loving and committed caregiver, Anita Boling and her family.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
