Funeral Home: Lindsey Funeral Home in Rural Retreat
Charles William Atwell, 80, of Bowling Green, died Saturday, March 23, 2013, at 7:40 p.m. at his residence.
He was born May 30, 1932, in Grose Close, Va., to the late Charles Henry Atwell and Maggie Gullion Atwell. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Jane Schaefer Atwell; his son, Charles William “Chuckie” Atwell Jr.; and four brothers and a sister. He owned Pro-Mo Landscaping in Princeton, W.Va., before retiring. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He was a member of Green Mountain Baptist Church in Grose Close.
He is survived by his wife of 13 years, Nedra Atwell of Bowling Green; his children, Mark Atwell and his wife, Laura, of Wilimington, Ohio, Mary McPeak of Wytheville, Va., Maggie Lovern and her husband, Nathan, of Rural Retreat, Va., Donnie Wheeler and his wife, Tracy, of Bowling Green and Jonathan Wheeler and his wife, Heidi, of Hopkinsville; 14 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and his brother, Trigg Atwell of Rural Retreat, Va.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Lindsey Funeral Home in Rural Retreat, with burial in Kimberlin Cemetery in Rural Retreat. Visitation will begin at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home in Virginia.
Family has requested donations be made to Hosparus Barren River, 101 Riverwood Ave. STE B Bowling Green, KY 42101-9981 in his memory. Local arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the J.C. Kirby and Son Broadway Chapel.
