Dollie Bernice Downs, 87, of Bowling Green, formerly of Louisville, passed away at 1:35 a.m. April 28, 2013, at Christian Health Care Center.

The Caneyville native was born June 22, 1925, a daughter of the late Buford Free Shain and Geneva Olive Basham Shain. Mrs. Downs was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Earl Downs; a daughter, Lonnie Faye Pharis; and a sister, Sadie Ercell Thompson.

Mrs. Downs retired from Sears, was a member of Buechel Park Baptist Church and attended First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) while in Bowling Green.

Visitation for Mrs. Downs will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday at Johnson-Vaughn-Phelps Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. EDT Wednesday in the Last Supper Chapel at Arch L. Heady Resthaven Cemetery at 4400 Bardstown Road, Louisville, KY 40218.

Mrs. Downs is survived by a daughter, Olivia Dollvetta Kirtley (Sam Jr.); one sister, Ester Marcella Beasley; five grandchildren, Kamala Pharis, Kara Ridgway (Doug), Samuel Kirtley III (Heather), Stephanie Lawrence (Michael) and Steven Kirtley (Kathi); eight great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the American Diabetes Association, Juvenile Diabetes Research Fund or Susan G. Komen for the Cure.
