Margaret Carwell passed away May 1 at her home in Green Valley, Ariz., after a long illness.
She had recently celebrated her 88th birthday and her 68th wedding anniversary. The Louisville native was born April 12, 1925. She was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur William and Rita Barnwell Kalaher, and her brother, Arthur William Kalaher Jr., of Louisville.
Mrs. Carwell was a housewife but enjoyed a long passion of traveling the world with her husband and children. Margaret was also a teacher and received her degree from the University of Kentucky. She was a devout Catholic and a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Bowling Green for nearly 40 years. She enjoyed socializing with the Friday Night Supper Club for years and was a member of numerous church and local committees.
Funeral Mass will be at noon Monday at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, with burial in Fairview Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday, with prayer services at 7 p.m. Sunday at the church. Johnson-Vaughn-Phelps Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
She is survived by her husband, Dr. Jackie L. Carwell (Col., Ret.); a daughter, Ann Carwell; a son, Lee Carwell, and his wife, Janet; granddaughter Shannon Gann and her husband, James; granddaughter Aimee DaCosta and her husband, David; granddaughter Whitley Hounchell; three great-grandchildren, Isaac, Matthew and Sierra Gann; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to the Carondelet (Hospice) Foundation, 120 N. Tucson Blvd, Tucson AZ 85716-4740.
