Dr. Robert Panchyshyn, 85, of Bowling Green, died June 23, 2013 at Greenwood Nursing & Rehab surrounded by his family.

The Minnesota native was a son of the late John and Mary Dymianek Panchyshyn. He was preceded in death by his wife, Joan Katherine Panchyshyn; multiple brothers and sisters; a grandson, Justine Newsome; son-in-law, Dana Newsome; and Billy Baseheart. He was an Army veteran serving as corporal in World War II and the Korean War. He was a retired professor at Western Kentucky University, where he taught from 1971 to 2001. Bob received his master’s from the University of Minnesota and doctorate at the University of Iowa. He was an active member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church, where he served in many ministries, including Ministry of Care, music, funeral, eucharistic, altar servers, adoration and sacristan. He was also a fourth-degree member of Knights of Columbus and the Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels. He served on the board of St. Vincent DePaul, as well as volunteer and representative at Greenview Regional Hospital Board. Bob was proud of and celebrated his Ukrainian heritage throughout his life. He was a member of St. Constantine Roman Catholic Church in Minnesota.

Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Baseheart Panchyshyn; his two daughters, Joy Panchyshyn Newsome and Constance Osborne and her husband, Rick; son, Joseph Panchyshyn and his wife, Joanne; six grandchildren, Leshan Morehead and husband, Jeff, Shaun Newsome and wife, Leslie, Hayley Panchyshyn, Brandon Panchyshyn, Ryan Osborne and Jacob Osborne; two great-grandchildren, Drew Morehead and Mason Newsome; one brother, Pete Panchyshyn and Diane, Mark, Sara and Chris Baseheart and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral Mass is at 10 a.m. Thursday at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, with burial in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday with prayer service at 7:30 p.m. at Hardy & Son Funeral Home, Bowling Green Chapel.
