Funeral Home: J.C. Kirby and Son Lovers Lane Chapel
William Samuel Morton Napier, 95, of Bowling Green, passed away July 1, 2013, at Hospice of Southern Kentucky at 7:40 p.m.
Morton was born in Nashville on Aug. 24, 1917. He was preceded in death by his father Dr. Baxter Wilson Napier Sr., mother Martha Elizabeth Morton Napier and one brother, Baxter Wilson Napier Jr.
Morton was a member of State Street United Methodist Church and retired as senior vice president of First Federal Savings & Loan. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corp, having served in the South Pacific during WWII. He was a member of the Bowling Green Masonic Lodge #73 F. & A.M. and a former member and president of Bowling Green Civitan Club. He graduated from Bowling Green High School in 1936 and Western Kentucky State Teachers College in 1940 where he was a member of the 1939 WKSTC tennis team. He was a former owner of Napier Hardware Co. in Bowling Green and worked for Belknap Hardware Co. in Louisville. He taught distributive education at Glasgow High School.
Morton is survived by his wife of 66 years, Nancy Morris Napier; two sons, Bob Napier (Katie) of Glasgow and William Morton “Bill” Napier II (Marion) of Bowling Green; six grandchildren, Ashley Polk, Amy Buser, Samuel, Melissa, Ethan and Erin Napier; six great-grandchildren Ellie, Margaret, Howell and Mary Neale Polk, Emily and Avery Buser; and two nephews.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at J.C. Kirby and Son Lovers Lane Chapel with visitation from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and from 10 a.m. until time of services Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery #1.
