George E. (Ed) Young, 81, died July 11, 2013, at his residence in Bowling Green.
He was born on Aug. 31, 1931, in Indianapolis. He was preceded in death by his father, William (Tucker) Young and his mother, Tempie Young. He was also preceded in death by one brother, four sisters and a son, George E. (Eddie G.) Young II. Ed is survived by his wife of 55 years, Phyllis Young, and two surviving brothers, Chuck Young (Loueva) and Bobby Young (Liz).
He has three surviving children, Karen Evans (Warren) from Arlington, Texas, Robin Ellenbecker (Steve) from Aurora, Colo., and Billy Young from Bowling Green. He also has seven grandchildren, Barry Evans (Anne) from Austin, Texas, Lisa Kibler (Erik) from Atlanta, Matt Evans from Arlington, Texas, Amy Bradshaw (Justin) from Aurora, Colo., Cody Ellenbecker from Eugene, Ore., Chrissi Myatt from Bowling Green and Tucker Young from Bowling Green. Ed has 12 great-grandchildren, Nathan, Elizabeth, Reed, Cole, Sam, Max, Carver, Gavin, Abigail, Austin, Madison and Ben. He has many nieces, nephews and friends.
Ed Young was in the Army for almost three years and was stationed in Japan. He was a builder/contractor in Bowling Green and at one time raised quarter horses and thoroughbreds.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. today and from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday at the J.C. Kirby and Son Lovers Lane Chapel. Funeral service is Saturday at the funeral home, with burial at Fairview Cemetery No. 2.
