Anita Wayne Maroney, 71, of Bowling Green, died Sept. 17, 2013, at The Medical Center at Bowling Green.
The Versailles native was born June 15, 1942, a daughter of the late Claude and Dorothy Drury Thompson. She is preceded in death by two brothers, Lawrence and Wesley Thompson.
Mrs. Maroney was a special services instructor for Community Action of Southern Kentucky, where she retired after 20 years of service. She was a 48-year season ticket holder for Western Kentucky University men’s basketball. She was a member of the WKU Student Wives Club, the Landmark Association and St. Joseph Catholic Church.
Survivors include her husband of 49 years, John Daniel Maroney Jr.; two sons, Jim Maroney of Bowling Green and John Daniel Maroney III and his wife, Rhonda, of Alvaton; two daughters, Cathy Maroney of Russellville and Anna Maroney-Jones and her husband, P.J., of Bowling Green; a brother, Billy Ray Thompson of Frankfort; a sister, Mary Ann King of Elizabethtown; three grandchildren, Logan and Austin Maroney, both of Alvaton, and Max Jones of Bowling Green; 15 nieces; 10 nephews; several great-nieces and great-nephews; and special friends, Shelia LeGrand and Florence Massey, both of Bowling Green.
Funeral Mass is scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, with entombment in St. Joseph Catholic Church Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday at the church, with Rosary at 7:30 p.m. Friday, also at the church. Johnson-Vaughn-Phelps Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the St. Joseph Catholic Church Restoration Fund.
