The Rev. Omer Stanford Murphy, 88, of Bowling Green, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Oct. 23, 2013, at Greenview Regional Hospital.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Laura Murphy; his parents, Virgil Garland Murphy and Cleo Murphy; and a sister, Mary Carter.
He is survived by a sister, Louise Powell; four children, Ane Murphy and Stanford Allen Murphy of Auburn and Foster “Tinker” Murphy and Paul (Dana) Murphy of Bowling Green; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, Stacy Forseng and son Ryan of Raymond, N.H., Delia (Dermot) Rooney of Indian Head, Md., Bo Murphy of Crown Pointe, Ind., Sabrina Murphy of Jerseyville, Ill., Nicholas (Rissie) and son Colin of Lexington, Va., and Lauren (Thomas) Graham of Houston, Texas.
The Rev. Murphy was a Baptist minister for more than 50 years. He served churches in Kentucky and Illinois. He was a World War II veteran, served in the European Theater and was a radio broadcaster for many years in different capacities. He had many passions that he pursued. One of his favorites was flying airplanes. He was a certified flight instructor, having worked with student pilots in Russellville and Bowling Green.
Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. Friday at Young Funeral Home in Russellville. Funeral will be at 2 p.m. with burial to follow at Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.
