Bernie R. Jones, 91, of Bowling Green, died at 8:50 p.m. Wednesday, April 30, 2014, at his residence.
He was born May 20, 1922, in Roundhill to the late Joab Jones and Gracie Hack Jones. He is also preceded in death by a sister, Ethel Elmore; and two brothers, Bill and Otis Jones.
He was a member of Ray’s Branch Church of Christ. He was a former deacon and elder at the Gardiner Lane Church of Christ in Louisville. He was a retired welder and layout man for Tube Turn in Louisville. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in both the 83rd and 104th Infantry Divisions in Europe. He was a Richardsville High School graduate.
Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Joyce E. Hays Jones; a daughter, Brenda Fitzpatrick and her husband, Charles, of Bowling Green; a son, Norman Jones and his wife, Kathy, of Clarksville, Ind.; sisters, Helen Johnson and Lucille Taylor, both of Louisville; and a brother, Bruce Jones of Franklin; four grandsons, Chris Jones and his wife, Lori, Nathan Jones and his wife, Sara, Trevor Jones and his wife, Amanda, and Daniel Fitzpatrick; 11 great-grandchildren, Aleigha, Noah, Macy, Aaron, Molly, Abigail, Aidan, Emma, Amelia, Jordon and Addison; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. today and after 11 a.m. Saturday at J.C. Kirby and Son, Broadway Avenue chapel. Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with burial in Mount Pleasant Church of Christ Cemetery.
