Happy Holidays… Well, almost. Begin this holiday season by setting some time aside now (before it is all gone) and assemble these quick, simple and delicious holiday soups. These gift mixes make a wonderful token of your friendship and they are perfect to keep on hand for that special unexpected ‘drop in’ guest. This Season for Sharing Meal Stack is an inexpensive and very thoughtful way to show your love for friends and family (oh yea, don’t forget to set some aside for your own family to enjoy).

Tuck your soup mix into a big measuring cup along with a wooden spoon & tea towel.
Set a soup mix inside a stockpot with some crunchy crackers.
Present a soup mix in a pretty fabric bag! When you give a pot of soup, don’t forget a stack of bowls tied with ribbon.


Meal Stack #1: Don’t Fence Me ‘In a Jar’ Soup
  • 1.6 oz. pkg. brown gravy mix
  • 2 T. mild chili powder
  • 2 t. dried oregano
  • 1 t. cumin
  • 1 t. dried, minced onion
  • 1 t. garlic salt
  • 10 to 12 tortilla chips, coarsely crushed
  • 1 ¼ c. pasta wheels, uncooked

Assembly Instructions:

Pour gravy mix into a one-pint, wide-mouth jar.
In a small bowl, combine chili powder, oregano, cumin, onion and garlic salt; pour on top of gravy mix.
Add tortilla chips and pasta to fill jar; secure lid. Tie on a gift tag with instructions.

Cooking Instructions:

Brown ½ lb. ground beef in a large saucepan.
Add jar contents and 7 cups of water; bring to a boil. Stir in 15 oz. can corn and 16 oz. can chopped tomatoes.
Reduce heat, cover and simmer for 20 to 25 minutes until pasta is tender.
Garnish with tortilla chips and shredded Monterey jack cheese. Serves 8.

Meal Stack #2: Wild Rice & Mushroom Soup ‘In a Jar’

  • 2- ¾ oz. pkg. country gravy mix
  • 1- ½ T. chicken bouillon granules
  • 2 t. dried, minced onion
  • 2 t. dried celery flakes
  • 1 t. dried parsley
  • ¼ c. instant wild rice, uncooked
  • 1 c. instant rice, uncooked
  • 2 T. dried mushrooms, chopped

Assembly Instructions:

Pour gravy mix into a one-pint, wide-mouth jar.
Combine bouillon granules, onion, celery and parsley in a small bowl; pour over gravy mix.
Layer on rice and mushrooms; seal lid. Attach a tag with instructions.

Cooking Instructions:

Empty jar into a large saucepan.
Add 7 cups water; bring to a boil.
Reduce heat, cover and simmer 25 to 30 minutes, stirring occasionally, until rice in tender. Serves 6

Meal Stack #3: Home for the Holidays Chicken Soup ‘In a Jar’

  • ⅓ c. chicken bouillon granules
  • ¼ c. dried, minced onion
  • ½ c. shell macaroni, uncooked
  • ⅔ c. pearled barley, uncooked
  • ½ c. spinach pasta, uncooked and broken into small pieces
  • ⅓ c. long-cooking long-grain rice, uncooked
  • 1 T. garlic powder
  • 1 t. pepper
  • 1 t. dried oregano

Assembly Instructions:

In a one quart, wide mouth jar layer bouillon, onion, macaroni, barley, spinach pasta and rice.
Combine remaining ingredients in a small plastic bag and place on top of layers.
Seal lid and attach instructions.

Cooking Instructions:

Pour all jar contents into a large pot filled with 12 cups water; bring to a boil.
Reduce heat and simmer for 45 minutes.
Add one cup cooked, cubed chicken; simmer 15 minutes. Serves 4 to 6
