BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WBKO) -- A first for Bowling Green's Aviation Heritage Park. They're bringing in an actual flying aircraft to promote their newest addition to the park.
To compliment the static displays that are already there, park personnel say a Huey helicopter will fly into the park on September 10. From 10:00 a.m. till 4:00 p.m. that day, the Viet Nam era aircraft will make demonstration flights, as well as offer a static display at the park.
"The Huey is the iconic aircraft in Viet Nam," says Aviation Heritage Park President Bob Pitchford, "7,000 of them were built and used in that conflict. And it is the characteristic sound of the Viet Nam era."
The event is helping kick off Aviation Heritage Park's new GoFundMe campaign. The "restorebghuey.com" website is where you can go to help fund the park so it can keep bringing in aircraft that honor military heroes from all over south central Kentucky. The park also aims to inspire young people to reach for their dreams.
