Beyond the Game: Bowling Green's D.G. Sherrill steps down as basketball coach

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WBKO)-- Bowling Green boys' basketball coach DG Sherrill has resigned as coach and athletic director.

Sherrill has been hired as the director of pupil personnel for the Bowling Green Independent School District and will officially assume that role with the district office administrative team July 1st.

"I don't wanna be chasing the sidelines as that old, old guy. I wanna do something different," said Sherrill. "And I told Mr. (Gary) Fields and told some other people over the years, I never wanted to end my career on the sidelines, I wanted to do some different things.

"I want to challenge myself in different arena's, and as you get older, and you've been blessed with the success that I've had, maybe it's time to hand the reigns over to a younger guy---they can go out there and have their shot at it and support them and see what they can do with this program."

Sherrill spent the last 12 years with the Purples, amassing a record of 307-92.

This past season Bowling Green finished 36-2, winning the 14th District championship, the 4th Region title and the school's first state championship by defeating Cooper High School.
