CAVE CITY, Ky. (WBKO) -- In light of the recent attacks at schools across the country, Caverna Elementary School and the Cave City Police Department, are working to protect school students from violence.
Superintendent Cornelius Faulkner wanted to build a partnership with local authorities, to create a stronger police presence in the schools. So Cave City Police Officer Darrell Butler is now specifically assigned as the School Resource Officer at Caverna Elementary.
"But I feel like officers are better suited when they can build a relationship when the students are younger," said Mr. Faulkner, "and the student doesn't see the police officer as someone they should fear but someone they can communicate with."
Faulkner says it's never too early to build a trustworthy relationship between police and school students. He says members of the Hart County Sheriff's Office are the school resource officers for Caverna Middle and High Schools.
