PORT TOWNSEND, Wash. (CNN) -- A cart on a Ferris Wheel malfunctions at a Washington State fair sending two women and a child falling up to 18 feet to the ground.
Witnesses say the cart spun sideways spilling them all out into the air.
They landed on the metal casing that supports the Ferris Wheel on the ground.
A seven year old boy, a 47-year-old woman were both treated at a local hospital.
A 59-year-old woman was airlifted to a trauma center in critical condition.
A fourth rider was hit when the other three fell from above. He refused treatment.
Mobile amusement rides send around 2,500 people to the E.R. each year according to the Consumer Product Safety Commission.
