FRANKLIN, Ky. (WBKO) -- Today, The Medical Center Franklin surprised Attendant worker, Valerie Macey with a national award from the Association for Healthcare Environment (AHE) of the American Hospital Association (AHA).
The association is the professional membership group of choice for professionals that handle patient and resident care environment across all health care settings.
Each year, they honor someone in the environmental services profession with the 'Heart of Health Care Award.' Valerie Macey, Attendant at The Franklin Medical Center, was the recipient of this year's prestigious award.
"Valerie's quietness, humbleness, is her strength," says Annette Runyon, the center's Administrator/Vice President. "Patients look to her when they're sick, they talk to her, and she goes above and beyond. It's not just about cleaning their room, it's about trying to make a difference,"
Macey, along with her co-workers and management were called into a meeting in the conference room where Runyon dialed into a phone conference with the AHE and AHA. The association preceded to talk about the importance of the 'Heart of Health Care Award.' When they announced Macey as the recipient of the award, she was anything but prepared to hear her name on the other end of the receiver.
"I'm just doing my job that I enjoy, so I never figured I would get to that," says Macey teary eyed. "I'm just doing what I like with the people that I like."
Each and every person individual who worked and works alongside Masey, reaffirms her compassionate, positive and hardworking attitude every day when she walks through the door.
"She's so caring about the patients and all the families and the co workers, whether they're in our department or not. She's so wonderful with the whole hospital. [She] just loves people and that's what makes her so good at her job," says Kathy Humphries, retired Attendant.
"I love to help people. I love to interact with people," says Macey with a grin.
Macey will be recognized at the National AHE Conference in Orlando for her commitment to excellence in health care. In addition, she will receive one year membership to the AHE and a generous monetary gift.
