BOWLING GREEN, Ky, (WBKO) -- Law enforcement officers and the community gathered at the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge in Bowling Green Friday to remember officers nationwide who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty.
Speakers at the ceremony reminded everyone that keeping those who put their life on the line is a job for the entire community.
Shawn Helbig, President of the local lodge, says this is not only a day to remember the fallen, but a way to shape the future.
""You come together to remember those line of duty deaths, and try to prevent those in the future. You have a better opportunity to take care of the community when you remember what has happened in the past."
The FOP memorial service is held annually during Police Memorial Week.
