BARREN COUNTY. Ky. (WBKO) -- Friday's storm made for a questionable Labor Day. Barren River Lake officials said they were worried about high waters and tree debris. It had some people questioning their plans.
"We were a little worried about the rising waters, a little worried about the rain. It seems to always rain on a holiday weekend," said park-goer Haven Broady. She spent her Labor Day on a houseboat that she owns on the marina.
Despite the worry, the only thing park-goers were prohibited from doing was go to Sunset Cove. It was closed due to high waters. This put a dent in some peoples' plans, but it did not stop them from having fun in the sun.
"The beach is closed due to high waters," said Barbra Carter. "We wanted to let our dog play in the water, but it's okay, it's a beautiful day, and we will let him out by the water and let him walk around."
"This is ideal temperature," said co-owner Wayne Shelton. He spent the day helping and warning people of the lake conditions before they went out. He told us that safety was his first priority. He also told us that fall is a good season for them, as boats can be taken out when the leaves change color.
The weather cleared up and was perfect for a day at the lake.
