The Bowling Green Hot Rods shut out the Clinton LumberKings 5-0 on Sunday at Ashford University Field in Clinton, Iowa.
The game was highlighted by the ninth shutout of the year from the Hot Rods pitching staff, led by another dominating outing from starter Adrian Navas (7-8).
For his third straight winning decision, Navas shutout the LumberKings in seven innings of work, giving up just four hits with seven strikeouts. The 21-year-old righty has given up just four runs in his last three starts, each one of those starts going seven innings.
To secure the win for Navas and the shutout for the Hot Rods, righty Peter Bayer finished the game with two scoreless innings of relief.
The Hot Rods got the scoring started in the second inning on a RBI infield single off the bat of outfielder Eleardo Cabrera.
In the fifth inning, the Hot Rods got a pair of two-run homers from outfielder Garrett Whitley and second basemen Mike Brosseau for their insurance runs.
For Whitley, the homer was his eighth of the year and fifth in the month of July.
The Rays No. 1 pick in 2015 paced the Hot Rods offense with three hits while catcher Jonah Heim chipped in with two hits.
With the win, the Hot Rods have now won 12 of their last 14 games overall. They have also secured at least a .500 record on this roadtrip.
The Hot Rods will try to continue their winning ways at 11 a.m. Sunday.
