In the third of four games at Parkview Field in Fort Wayne, Ind., the Bowling Green Hot Rods were defeated 7-1 against the Fort Wayne TinCaps on Saturday.
Despite scoring the first run of the game in the top of the third inning on a RBI single by outfielder Jesus Sanchez, the Hot Rods were defeated as the TinCaps scored the final seven runs of the game.
After a RBI single by first basemen G.K. Young tied things up in the third inning, Fort Wayne took the lead for good as shortstop Fernando Tatis Jr. hit a two-run homer off of Hot Rods reliever Peter Bayer (2-2) to go up 3-1.
For Tatis, his 21st homer of the year set a TinCaps franchise record for most homers in a season. The record was set 20 years ago by Jake Patterson who hit 20 homers in 1997.
Fort Wayne scored two more runs in the seventh and eighth inning to roll to the victory.
Adrian Morejon (1-0) notched his first pro win by giving up just one run in six innings. Lefty Will Headen and righty Evan Miller blanked the Hot Rods through the final three innings.
For the Hot Rods, starting pitcher Angel Yepez only threw two pitches before being removed from the game for an unspecified injury. The bullpen combined to throw all nine innings of a regular game for the first time in franchise history.
With the loss, the Hot Rods have now lost two straight games for the first time in the month of August.
Bowling Green will try to restart their winning ways at noon CDT Sunday.
