BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WBKO)-- According to the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, District 4, I-65 is blocked between exits 76 and 71 due to a semi crash around mile marker 72 in Hart County.
People heading south are encouraged to use a different route. The transportation cabinet suggests exit 91 to the Western Kentucky Parkway, then on to the Natcher Parkway and rejoin 65 S in Bowling Green.
Long delays have been reported.
KYTC says motorists who don't take an alternate route will be forced to use Exit 76 to US 31W and rejoin 65 at Exit 71.
Traffic control told WBKO both north and south bound are moving slowly, if at all. They said traffic is backed up 14 miles.
They credit some of the congestion to spring break traffic and construction as well.
Brendan O'Hern, a WKU student, spoke with the semi driver.
According to O'Hern, Markese Kidd was driving the semi for Davenport Transportation and had been working there for 2 and a half years. He said he lives in Chattanooga, TN and drives that route 5 days a week. He also told O'Hern the semi he was driving transports mail for postal services.
"I don't know what happened. I started to slide and my tire hit the guard rail, I hit the dividers, and back to the guard rail. Then I fought it until it stopped here," Kidd said.
The accident happened around noon, and a wrecker showed up around 12:50 p.m. The left lane had reopened by 1:30 p.m.
