UPDATE: ALBANY, Ky. (WBKO) - The man charged with killing the son of Albany's police chief pleaded not guilty to murder Tuesday.
According to the circuit court clerk's office, Travis Slone was appointed a public defender.
He's charged with murder in the death of James Guffey, who's the son of Albany police chief Ernest Guffey.
Slone's bond was set at $1 million cash.
His preliminary hearing was scheduled for September 28 at 1:00 PM.
Kentucky State Police confirmed late Monday night that Albany Police Chief Ernest Guffey's son was killed Monday afternoon.
KSP says Travis Slone shot and killed 53-year-old James Guffey shortly after 2:00 p.m. Monday.
They say the shooting happened at the Agnal Slone residence on highway 738, also known as Wolf River Dock Road.
Travis Slone has been moved to the Russell County Jail.
