BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WBKO) The Bowling Green Warren County NAACP chapter held its "Freedom Fund Gala" on Saturday night.
The theme for this year's event was "Steadfast and Immovable". Organization members, community leaders and Kentucky Wesleyan president, Bart Darrell, attended as the keynote speaker.
"You can't even imagine the groups impact, it's not something you put a number on. It's about a way of life. It's about improving diversity and equity for all people here in Bowling Green and Warren County," said Darrell. "I don't know that I've been humbled or more honored when I received this invitation. It wasn't one I was about to turn down."
Chapter president, Martha Amerson, was pleased with the turnout for the organization in a community that she calls home.
"What the NAACP means to me even when I didn't hold the title of president, I've always been a people person I've always enjoyed helping those that maybe were shy about talking about things and I want to be that voice," she says.
The event took place at 6:00 p.m. at the UAW Banquet Hall on Plum Springs Loop.
