LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) -- Henry Clay High School principal Paul Little, Jr. says a student brought a loaded gun to school Wednesday.
Little says the student brought the gun from home to school, and officials were able to seize the gun before classes began.
"Acting on a tip this morning we determined that one of our students had brought a loaded gun from home to school," Little said in a letter to parents, "The quick response of our administrative team and Fayette County Public Schools Department of Law Enforcement enabled us to intercept the student and confiscate the weapon before school started."
The student told authorities the weapon was for protection in the neighborhood.
The student was charged with unlawful possession of a weapon.
