BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WBKO) -- We always talk about protecting people and pets from the intense heat, but what about your plants?
John Atkerson of Three Lions Garden Center says potted plants should be moved to the shade or even taken inside, because they dry out much faster than plants in the ground. He says you should water your plants in the morning and water them deep.
"That would simulate a rain event for a plant," said Atkerson, "which is what they're used to. They don't like little dabs of water here and there. It doesn't develop a good root system and it's not what the plant wants."
Atkerson also says you should not water at night because then your plant will be sitting in wet dirt in high humidity and that's not a good environment for your plant.
