Riley wins 23rd District House Seat

GLASGOW, Ky. (WBKO) - Republican Steve Riley has officially been declared the winner for State Representative in the 23 district.

Riley is well known for being the Barren County High School boys basketball coach.

He faced off against Democrat Danny Basil, who conceded to Riley just before seven Tuesday night.

A lot of eyes were on the race statewide as republicans were looking to flip the House for the first time in 95 years.

They accomplished that, with Riley telling 13 News he was honored to be part of such a historical night.

"It means a lot, because I love this community. My wife and I moved here 32 years ago, and we've really enjoyed being a part of this community, and I look forward to serving this community for many more years."

Riley made the comment that his race was hard fought against a worthy opponent.

When asked what his first order of business will be as a State Representative, Riley said that will largely depend on what his constituents believe are the most important issues.
