LUCAS, Ky. (WBKO) -- Whether you like going to the lake to fish, ride around on the boat or hit the water with some skis -- for several lake-lovers, summer is far from over, despite the fact that many area schools are back in session.
"My in-laws live in Bowling Green and they used to have a pontoon out here [Barren River Lake State Resort Park] and we used to come out here all the time and they sold it, so we just rented this one for the day so that we could bring the family out," says Shannon Pankratz.
"My daughter's going back to college at Eastern [ Kentucky University] and my son is a freshman and he's going back to school in a week so we thought we'd just come out here and enjoy the day," she added.
"You can definitely notice a difference when school starts back, and this weekend is the same. It's been pretty quiet out here on Barren this weekend," says Brandon Boone, a Conservation Officer with the Department of Kentucky Fish and Wildlife.
13 News caught a boat ride with Fish and Wildlife, and there was a noticeable difference in lake traffic Sunday compared to earlier in the season.
"It's been, here recently, kind of slow, but you know, it kind of varies throughout the summer depending on the specific weekend. Holidays will obviously be more busy," adds Boone.
As far as safety on the water Boone says, "It's been a good summer. We've had a lot going on, and very few boating accidents, so that's always a good thing."
For those at the lake this weekend, they're glad they got the trip in before the season ends.
"First time down here this summer. We've spent many summers here," says Pankratz.
