BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WBKO) -- People across the state were alerted by the same sound as officials participated in a tornado drill.
All across Kentucky, schools practiced tornado safety drills while in session, like at Lost River Elementary School.
The drills rung out at 9:07 a.m. Central Standard Time.
"Depending on the drill, it takes 4, 5 minutes out of our day, but it's certainly worth 4 to 5 minutes to keep everybody safe," said Jim Goff, principal of the school.
Teachers guided children towards interior walls of predetermined safety areas, kneeling and covering their heads to be protected from theoretical flying debris.
This is a standard practice for the school, Goff said, and that the school had gone through the drills already three times this year.
