BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WBKO) -- Across the Warren County School District on Friday, April 12, schools will be closed.
Substitute teacher requests grew high this week, as local teachers prepare to head to Frankfort in response to Governor Matt Bevin's veto of the state budget.
Superintendent Rob Clayton said the decision was made to give families time to make arrangements, and that when it comes to the state budget, there are a lot of unknowns.
"What we do know is that the current budget that was approved is far better than the one proposed by the governor back in the fall," Clayton said. "And because of that, I think there is a great deal of concern that if there's not an override of the veto, that we perhaps would be looking at a worse scenario than already exists in the current budget."
Area children under 18 will still be able to get free breakfast from 7:00 am to 9:00 am, and lunch from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm, at Bristow, Lost River, Natcher, Briarwood and Warren Elementary schools.
