Workforce Board discusses job growth in South Central Kentucky

BOWLING GREEN, Ky (WBKO) -- The South Central Kentucky Workforce Development Board met today to discuss job creation, training, and improvement in the local community. New president and CEO, Robert Boone, conducted his first meeting and discussed his vision for the board moving forward.

"The workforce needs in this area are really well known throughout the state," Boone said. "Really what I tell people is if you're going to have a challenge this is a great one to have. We actually have more jobs than people in the area. So one of my focuses and my staff's focuses is going to be training the individuals we have."

Boone understands that this is the 21st century and realizes the positive impact that the internet and social media can have on the business world.

"Web presence, social media presence does not have boundary lines. I want to get us thinking outside of the centers. I think oftentimes what has happened is we think inside of buildings and of course buildings have walls buildings have barriers. We need to take those down," said Boone.

The board also had the opportunity to have a back and forth discussion with congressman Brett Guthrie regarding working with government to achieve their goals. One topic that Guthrie was focusing on - entitlement programs.

"We need people working and I believe the people who are on these programs desire to work themselves off of those programs or should desire themselves to work off those programs," said Guthrie.
