For the second time in the last three weeks, Raneem Elgedawy was selected as the Conference USA freshman of the week Monday following her first career double-double in WKU's win over Evansvilleon Thursday.
The honor is Elgedawy's second of her young WKU career and marks the first time that any Lady Topper has earned multiple CUSA freshman of the week awards in the same season since Tashia Brown accomplished the feat three times during the 2014-15 campaign.
One of the top young post players in CUSA, Elgedawy's skills were on full display in WKU's 92-54 win over Evansville as she reached career-high marks for both points (19) and rebounds (10) en route to her first career double-double. All five of the Alexandria, Egypt, native's offensive rebounds turned into second-chance points for the Lady Toppers, including a pair of putbacks by Elgedawy herself.
Not only was the freshman efficient at both scoring and rebounding, she also matched her career high with a pair of blocks and came away with a career-best four steals against the Purple Aces. For the season, Elgedawy ranks second among all CUSA freshmen with 6.3 rebounds per game, and her one block per game average is 11th among C-USA players of all classes.
