The Barren River District Health Department's first H1N1 vaccination clinic for the public proves to be a success.
Officials say those who signed up for the appointment only clinic were able to get in and get out.
And folks in the community were eager to get a shot as the first H1N1 clinic in Warren County brought out hundreds.
"The flu is all over the news, and I'm in a high-risk group so I decided to get a shot," said Christie Gray, a Warren County mom.
There was never a doubt Christie Gray would get an H1N1 vaccine.
The 20-year-old mother of one with another on the way hits a couple of its target groups.
"I know there's one for the 6-months to 24-years of age that I fall into. And there's one for the pregnant mothers," she said.
Christie wasn't alone at the health department Tuesday.
Officials say some 400 people had an appointment and most everyone was showing up.
"We were actually ahead of schedule. People were showing up early and we were able to get them in and out of the door," said Crissy Rowland, with the Barren River District Health Dept.
Rowland, a health care worker and mother, even got her shot Tuesday morning.
She says getting the vaccination is a smart thing to do.
"On a professional and personal level, I'm encouraging everyone specifically who falls into the target groups to get the vaccine."
Even some not in target groups were stepping up for a shot.
In Butler County, Jackie Evans got the "seasonal" and H1N1 mist.
"I go to church and I'm active in the community. I think if you can prevent it, you just need to prevent it," she said.
Prevention is key says the Barren River District Health Department, and a trip in for a shot may do just that.
"For myself and my family, I'd just as soon take caution," Evans said.
Barren River District Health Department officials say if you're in a target group and were unable to get a vaccine Tuesday, keep checking back.
They say the department is scheduling more clinics as the vaccine becomes available.
