The Kentucky Chamber of Commerce says it's time for state employees and retirees to pay more for their health insurance.

A study released by Chamber President Dave Adkisson says state government spending on health insurance for its workers, retirees, and teachers has grown five times faster than the rate of overall state spending since 2000.

Adkisson says the average state worker pays only 3% of his or her health insurance premium.

That's compared to 20% paid by the average private employee in Kentucky.

The Chamber's comments drew criticism from groups representing state workers and teachers.
