February is Heart Awareness Month and the American Heart Association always kicks it off with Wear Red Day being held on the first Friday.
Wearing red is to raise the awareness for women and heart disease.
"The number one killer in women is heart disease," says AHA Development Associate, Amy Patterson, "and a lot of people don't know that. We are really trying to get that message out there so women can be healthier and live better lives for themselves, and do a lot more things to prevent them from getting heart disease."
Red can be worn all month long to send the message that heart disease can be prevented by eating and living healthier.
Red ribbons are also being hung around Bowling Green.
