For those who enjoy working out occassionally or if you're in a strict training routine, the heat can be a major problem.
We found out the best ways to stay safe when working out outside.
"I've played tennis all of my life, so I get out here as much as I can," said Bernie Howard, a Bowling Green resident.
Howard and a few of his friends try to play several times a week.
"Four to five times a week during the summer, and it was definitely high 90's it seemed like most of the days we were out here," said Howard. "Of course, being on this court, that raised the temperature up even more."
Once you're playing, you can immediately feel the heat from the court.
"Sometimes we may try to play later in the day," said Howard. "Obviously the temperature may go down a little bit, but usually with everyone's schedule, it works out better to play about this time of day."
Besides playing later in the day, you should also make sure you replenish electrolytes with sports drinks and stay hydrated with water.
"It's good to drink a good quantity of water before you run, 20-24 ounces about an hour before you train," said Greg Lee, Lead Fitness Trainer at Total Fitness Connection. "Try weighing yourself before you run, for every pound lost you need to drink about 20-24 ouces of fluid."
So if you decide you do want to work out in the heat, remember safety tips and always have a bottle of water.
We visited several different parks Tuesday, and most of the day, the tracks were clear.
More people showed up later in the day, some running and some walking, even with their pets.
Howard says the good thing about tennis is the ability to take breaks.
"Tennis is more in spurts," said Howard. "You switch sides every odd game if you're actually playing a match, so you'll have your change overs where you can towel off and get water."
One personal trainer we spoke with says if you want to exercise outside, it's even better to do so earlier in the morning if you can.
