RV dealers nationwide are seeing sales increase by 87% from 2009 to 2010. As it turns out, a lot of people aren't just using the vehicles for camping anymore. Many are using them as their home away from home.
"On weekends, we pretty much fill up," said Bowling Green KOA Kampground Owner, Paul Von-Webb.
He thinks the upward trend is thanks to mainly baby boomers.
"In studying the age wave, and with ten thousand people a day turning 60 years old, I think the economy's buzzing well enough that people are taking the attitude of "Let's get an RV and hit the road," he said.
"We're also seeing more expensive units come in," said Von-Webb. "People that are willing to spend money, people that don't flinch as much at the price."
Bill Koselka and his wife, Judy spend a large amount of their time in their RV, as Bill travels across the country for work. The sticker price on a model like his RV is $450,000.
Koselka says it's just as nice as an actual house.
"We like to camp, just in a Mariott Hotel. And this is the equivalent of those rooms, or probably better," Koselka said.
"I think the reason is the comfort," he said. "You can sit and drive this. It's air conditioned and it's got a living room chair that's completely adjustable. You can drive it for 10, 12 hours without getting fatigued."
Von-Webb says he's excited to see the industry grow, and thinks it will pick up even more.
"It's more like a bedroom and a living room on wheels... and the whole world is your playground," he said.
The director of the Midwest RV Supershow in Elkhart, IN says the average person buying a motor home is willing to spend as much as $200,000.
