WKU Second Parking Structure Groundbreaking

Western's Gary Ransdell joked most ground-breaking ceremonies distribute shovels and everyone digs up the earth. But in the parking lot between Diddle Arena and L.T. Smith Stadium, Ransdell broke ground with a bulldozer. The new parking structure is a $10 million project that will provide 824 new parking spaces. And the new structure will fit in with the design of other campus buildings.

Ransdell says, "It's been very important that this be an aesthetic and an architecturally appealing facility. And it's designed to look very much like the renovation of the Downing University Center. And it will create a quad between the Downing Center, Diddle Arena, the parking structure and the stadium."

The new structure is scheduled for completion in August of 2005.
